So we strolled on out to Spundae last night thinking it would be a rather chill evening with Christopher Lawrence. When we arrived, we were a little surprised to see a line somewhat resembling the Spundae lines of old. It was midnight and we had expected to just walk right in. I think the combination of spring break and hometown hero Lawrence made it quite an inviting evening. I have to say one of the reasons I like Circus is that the people who work the doors have always been a class act. Case in point being that they always take care of you if it is your birthday. Once inside, I was amazed by how full it was. The place was packed. Unfortunately, it seemed like amatuer clubber night. The whole west side of the main room was a giant puddle of those who had over-indulged in their poison of choice. Add to that, there was an unwanted abundance of slimey shirtless guys. Topping it all off was the jackass who stood behind the door leading from the main room to the outside. For at least 15 minutes the guy was slamming the door back into people who were simply trying to walk outside. I must say, though, that I had a hardy laugh when I watched said jackass fall flat on his ass behind the dj booth. He was then helped up and escorted out. From then on the evening improved.
The house room was jumping all night long. Isaiah Martin and Magik Fingarz threw down a great mash up of a set with Kourtney's percussion adding a nice element to the mix. In the main room, Q Burns got the crowd energized with a frantic set before headliner Lawrence took to the decks. When Mr. Lawrence finally took over, the crowd was in a frenzy. His set was blistering. It kept the energy level on 10 the whole night through and was relentless. He spun an excellent hard trance set that left me pleasantly surprised.
The crowd wasn't entirely void of people who understand the spirit of the scene. While taking in some fresh air, I met some cool people and we chatted about the good old days in clubland.
Around 4 the house lights came on and it was time to finally call it a night.
